BikeBeat presents the Maßstab SL – HITOSHI Edition: Redefining the essence of lightness and precision
With the new Maßstab SL – HITOSHI Edition, BikeBeat introduces a wheelset that is far more than just an evolution. It is the result of an extraordinary encounter – a fusion of Japanese passion for cycling and German engineering – merged into a uncompromising wheelset for maximum performance.
The origin of an idea
It all began with an extraordinary request: A passionate cyclist from Japan approached BikeBeat with the vision of developing a version of the Maßstab SL that could withstand the extreme demands of hill-climb races in the Japanese mountains. The goal: even lighter, even stiffer, uncompromisingly tuned for efficiency.
One central requirement from the customer: steel spokes. Not out of nostalgia, but out of pragmatism. Steel spokes are available worldwide, every bike shop knows their structure, and any spoke can be quickly re-trued or replaced on the go. The result: a high-end wheelset that is not only extremely light, but also practical and service-friendly – even far from home.
From Maßstab SL to HITOSHI Edition
The original Maßstab SL, weighing from 1,040 grams, was optimized primarily for lighter riders. With the targeted modifications of the HITOSHI Edition, a new chapter begins: thanks to reinforced structure and optimized stiffness, even larger and heavier riders can now enjoy ultra-light wheels – without compromising safety and performance.
What makes the HITOSHI Edition special
The HITOSHI Edition is the consistent further development of the proven Maßstab SL – tailored to the specific demands of mountain riding.
• Even lighter – through selective material tuning and optimized layup structures
• Even stiffer – thanks to precise adjustment of spoke holes and alignment for immediate power transfer
• Even more exclusive – with limited BikeBeat Hyperlight hubs featuring ceramic bearings, inspired by Japanese racing culture and hand-laced in Germany
• Even more universal – steel spokes ensure everyday usability, serviceability, and global availability
Who is the HITOSHI Edition for?
The HITOSHI Edition is aimed at ambitious road cyclists, purists, and all those who refuse to compromise when climbing. It combines uncompromising performance with technical sophistication – and now also gives heavier athletes the opportunity to ride ultra-light wheels.
A special highlight: Weighing only 930 grams, the Maßstab SL – HITOSHI Edition is among the lightest wheelsets with steel spokes – practical, service-friendly, yet uncompromisingly focused on performance.
Conclusion
The Maßstab SL – HITOSHI Edition is more than just a wheelset. It is a statement of passion, precision, and the art of pushing boundaries. Born from an individual vision, it was created for those who want to get the maximum out of themselves and their bike – while also valuing everyday usability and universal serviceability.
